Most of us think of reading as a simple, passive process that involves reading words in linear fashion , which means reading one word after another and internalising their meaning one at a time. But reading is actually a very complex process that requires a great deal of active participation on the part of the reader. Most of us end up disliking reading because we do it mechanically in a disjointed manner. Among the many errors that we make while reading, one is the error of pronunciation. We often end up reading words like boot as boat or ship as sheep making comprehension virtually impossible. Our ability to read well depends on our fluency which comes only when we are able to anticipate words that are going to follow .Practice is the only way to improve our ability to read.
