first of all let's know what is kinetic energy =

energy possessed by an object due to its motion ..
equation = Ek= 1÷2mv square ..

now let us take a View on momentum =
The sum of mass and velocity if an object is known as momentum ...equation= mv where m is the mass and v is the velocity of that object ..

new come to the point ,,
the only relation is that both in kinetic energy and momentum mass and a particular velocity
occurs. ....
as you can see in formula
kinetic energy = 1÷2mv square
momentum = mv

in both the formulas mv that is mass and velocity occurs ..

sometimes its decirable to express the kinetic energy of a particle in terms of momentum. since v=p/m and the kinitic energy k =1/2mv square so
k=1/2 m(p/m)square =p2/2m

if a massive particles and a light particleshave the same momentum, the light  one will have a  more kinitic energy if a light particles and a heavy one have the same velocity. the heavy one has the more kinetic energy
