in general twinkling of stars is caused when light rays pass from different medium also when the stars refract from different directions...
with change in density of the medium the internsity of light entering in our eyes through stars changes
for ex, In the ☀daytime the region or atmosphere near the sun is warm as compared to those of near to earth
thus then arises the change in medium
the atmosphere near ☀ sun becomes rarer while near the earth the medium will be denser thus the amount of light entering will change with change in medium
~~~~As a result stars blinks or twinkles
so in other words we can say that stars blink or twinkle because of the turbulence caused in our atmosphere
