what is rectifier? how many types of rectifier? explain in breif
Answers
Answer:
Majorly these are classified into two types they are single phase and three phase rectifier. Further rectifiers are classified into three types namely uncontrolled, half controlled and full controlled rectifiers. Let us see in brief about some of these types of rectifiers.
Rectifier is a device used to convert alternating current into direct current.
There are two types of rectifiers:
1. Diode as a half-wave rectifier -
During positive half cycle of the input AC,the p-n junction is forward biased. Thus the resistance in p-n junction becomes low and current flows. Hence we get output in the load. During negative half cycle of the input AC, the P-n junction is reverse biased. This, the resistance of p-n junction is high and no current flows. Hence no output in the load. So for complete cycle of Ac current flows through the load resistance in the same direction.
2. Diode as a full wave rectifier :
During the positive half cycle of the input AC the diode D1 is forward biased and the diode D2 is reverse biased. The forward current flows through diode D1.
During the negative half cycle of the input AC the diode D1 is reverse biased and diode D2 is forward biased. Thus current flows through diode D2. This we find that during both the halves current flows in the same direction.
