Reflex actions is an involuntary ,automatic response to a stimulus. reflex action are controlled by spinal cord. the path taken by stimulus /Impulse during reflex action is called reflex arc

steps in reflex action

1.stimulus is detected by receptors and Impulse is carried by sensory neuron into spinal cord

2. Inside spinal cord , Impulse transferred to relay neuron /inter neuron which anaylse the message further instruction is sent by relay neuron to motor neuron and finally to muscle /gland .response I.e reflex action comes into play

Answer :-

In general terms, a Reflex action can be defined as an unconscious, automatic and involuntary response of effectors (muscles and glands) to a stimulus, which is monitored through the Peripheral nervous system (P.N.S.).

The steps involved in a reflex action are as follows :-

  • Receptors such as the skin, perceive the stimulus and activate sensory nerve impulses.

  • The sensory organs carry messages in the form of sensory impulses to the spinal cord of the Peripheral Nervous System (P.N.S.).

  • The spinal cord modulates the sensory nerve impulses.

  • The neurons of the spinal cord transmit the sensory nerve impulses to the motor neurons.

  • The motor nerves conduct these impulses to the effectors (muscles and glands) which in return, respond by pulling back the organ, away from the source of harmful stimulus.

Thus, the purpose of the reflex action is successfully accomplished.
