A reflex, or reflex action, is an involuntary and nearly instantaneous movement in response to a stimulus. A reflex is made possible by neural pathways called reflex arcs which can act on an impulse before that impulse reaches the brain.

 \underline \mathbb{ANSWER} .

 \underline \mathbb{REFLEX\:ARC}

》The pathway taken by nerve impulses in a reflex action is called Reflex Arc.

_______________________________________

》Reflex arc is formed in the spinal cord although the information input also goes on to reach the brain.

REFLEX ARC INVOLVES:

1•Sense organs which receive the stimulus.

2• Sensory neuron conveys the stimulus to spinal cord

3•Spinal cord interprets the stimulus and give appropriate command to motor neurons.

4• Motor neurone conveys motor command to effectors.

5• Effectors or muscles execute the effect by neuromuscular movements.

_______________________________________

》Reflex arcs have not evolved in animals because the thinking process of the brain is not fast enough.

 \underline \mathbb{SO}

》It is quite likely that reflex arc have evolved as efficient ways of functioning in the absence of true thought process.

》The Flowchart showing reflex arc is given below:

STIMULUS —————» Receptors(sense organs)—————» Sensory neuron ———» Spinal cord ———» Motor neurons —————» Muscles/Glands—————» ACTION(response).
