Ok...
A reflex arc is the reaction pathway that the nervous impulse follows when a reflex occurs. A NORMAL reaction pathway starts with a stimulus, detected by a receptor. This sends a nervous impulse along a nerve to the CNS (brain). The brain then sends another impulse to an effector which brings about a response. However, for the REFLEX arc, the receptor detects the stimulus and sends and impulse. But the impulse isn't sent to the brain . It is sent to a relay neuron in the spine which effectively decides very quickly what response to send (does the brains job, but quicker). Another impulse is then sent to the effector and response occurs.
E.g. A fly lands on your arm (this is the stimulus)
The skin receptors detect this. They send an impulse to the relay neurons. The relay neurons 'know' how the body should respond and send another impulse to the arm muscles (effector). The muscles then contract to bring about the response of you swatting the fly and jumping away in disgust.
Good?
