The ratio of the velocity of light in a vacuum to its velocity in a specified medium is called its refractive index.
(Formula)
*its refractive index not refract'ED' index =_=*

The refractive index of the second medium in respect to first medium is defined as the ratio of sine of angle of incidence to the ratio of sine of angle of refraction in the second medium. It has no units.
sini/sinr=constant 1u2
It's also called as mew.
There are two types to calculate refractive index...
1-By the ratio of speed of light in vacuum to the speed of light in that medium.
2-By the ratio of light in both mediums.
