refrain means the line's in a poem which r continually repaeated or the line's on which we give special emphasis. we can say refrain means the subject around which the poem revolves
the refrain in the poem the brook by Tennyson is men may and men may go but I go on forever which means that human beings life is mortal they have temporary existence their life is between birth and death. but nature is immortal it starts from eternity and ends in immortality. that is human beings hv a particular time period from which they stay on earth but once nature starts and goes on forever. the brook is a part of nature it takes birth from the mountain by the melted glaciers and reaches the sea. in its path it faces many obstacles but never gives up it dosen, t waits for any and goes on till it reaches it destination which is the sea but it does not stops there the water of brook remains in the sea. the main theme of the poem is that human beings hv temporary existence while nature remains forever
