The period of September 1793 to July 1894 is referred to as the reign of terror. During this period, Robespierre who ruled France at that time followed a policy of severe control and punishment. Many people were tried by the court. They included all those who were known as Robespierre's enemies like ex - nobles, people of the clergy and few people who had a political background were tried by the court. And if found guilty, they were guillotined. More than 15000 people were guillotined during this period. This reign of terror became intolerable and Robespierre lost his followers. He was then convicted by the court and was guillotined in July 1789, and the reign of terror ended with his death.
