Yes it is really worth the 2 years of preparation.
We should all know that winning is not everything. Sometimes it is the the journey which teaches you more than the destination itself. It may happen that you may not crack the exam but it will definitely teach you many things. You will love the fascinating results that hard work can give, you will feel real competition, there will be many instances when you will exceed your own limit of hard work in those 2 years. These things will give you sense of self-confidence and self esteem.
In the end of these two years you will be full of these skills apart from academic strength.
There are many advantages of studying in an IIT.

Some people say that IITians are no different, and they are there just because one exam. We are no different when we enter an IIT, but definitely are different when graduate from here. If these 4 years of stay are used wisely you will notice some huge positive change in you.
So I will say, go for that 2 years of preparation, because its outcome is worthy, irrespective that you crack the exam or not.
