The Indian constitution provides for a special system of reserved constituencies for the weaker sections of the society. Some constituencies are reserved for people of SC and ST .In a reserved SC constituency only people from that caste can stand for election in that area this is called reserved constituency
Political parties can use dirty tricks to win that seat so reserved constituency can help in that way and major political parties have advantage over smaller political parties so this system is introduced.

⚫ The Constitution makers were concerned that in an open electoral competition, certain weaker sections may not get elected to the Lok Sabha and the state Legislative Assemblies.
⚫ They may not have the required resources, education and contacts to contest and win elections against others.
⚫ If that happens, our Parliament and Assemblies would be denied of the voice of an important section of our population making our democracy less representative and less democratic.
⚫ Those who are powerful and capable may stop them from winning elections.
⚫Hence the makers of our Constitution thought of a special system of reserved constituencies for the weaker sections.
