\huge\tt {CLASSIFICATION :-}

  • On the basis of ORIGIN :-

On the basis of origin we have two types of resources that are biotic and abiotic resources.

Biotic Resources are resources which are obtained from biosphere and have life.

Example :- Human beings, Flora and Fauna.

Abiotic resources are all those things which are composed of non living things.

Example :- Rocks and Metals.

  • On the basis of EXHAUSTIBILITY :-

On the basis of exhaustibility resources are of two types that are renewable and non-renewable resources.

The resources which can be renewed or reproduced by physical, chemical and mechanical processes are known as renewable or replenishable resources.

Example :- Solar energy and wind energy.

Non- renewable resources are resources which occur over a very long geological time that is dead take millions of years in formation.

Example :- Fossil fuel.

  • On the basis of OWNERSHIP:-

There are 4 types of resources on the basis of ownership namely individual, community, National and international.

Individual resources are owned by individuals.

Example :- land.

Community resources are owned by community and accessible to all the members of the community.

Example :- Public Park.

National resources are every resource in a country.

Example :- water resources, forests, even the oceanik areas upto 12 nautical miles that is around 22.2 kilometres from the coast.

International resources are are owned by international institutions.

Example :- beyond 200 nautical miles of the Exclusive economic zone belong to open ocean and no individual country can utilise this without permission of international institutions.

  • On the basis of STATUS OF DEVELOPMENT :-

On the basis of status of development there are four types of resources namely Potential, Developed, Stock and Reserves.

Potential resources are found in region but have not been utilised.

Example :- Rajasthan and Gujarat have potential for development of wind and solar energy but so far they are not developed.

Developed resources are resources whose quantity and quality have been determined for usage but the development depends on technology and level of their feasibility.

Example :- Fossil fuel.

Stock resources have the potential to satisfy human needs but humans do not have appropriate technology to access them.

Example :- Hydrogen in a water molecule.

Reserves are resources whose potential is known and even the technology is there to access them but is used in limited extent because they are basically reserved to use in future.

Example :- Dams.
