Respiration is the process through which food is broken down to obtain energy. ENRGY is important to carry out day to day functions.

After the process of digestion food is stored in the body in the form of simple sugars[Glucose]. When the body requires energy the process of respiration to convert glucose into energy starts. The steps of the process are as follows:-

1. The glucose which is a 6 carbon compound is first converted into a 3 carbon atom called pyruvate[ or pyruvic acid ] through a process called glycolysis.

2. The pyruvate is then converted into energy inside the Mitochindria. The products obtained after the conversion of pyruvate into energy depends upon the availability of oxygen at the time of respiration.
