It involves the complete and permanent fusion of two haploid gametes to form a diploid zygote. ... Gametes involved are of two types—sperm and ovum. (It is also called fertilization. It involves the complete and permanent fusion of two haploid gametes to form a diploid zygote.

Syngamy is the most common mode of sexual reproduction and is defined as "the process of fusion of egg nucleus with make gamete resulting in the formation of diploid zygote or embryo" Generally, this process involves two haploid cells, sperm and ovum (these cells may be termed differently sometimes in different species).  Based on whether Sperm and Ovum is present is same parent or different parent, Syngamy is classified into Endogamy and 'Exogamy'. Endogamy is the fusion of sperm and ovum that are derived from the same parent which is very rare. Exogamy is the fusion of sperm and ovum that are derived from two different parent which is very common.
Hope it helps you ☺️
