What is reverberation?

A sound produced in a big hall will persist by repeated reflection from the walls until it is lessened to a value where it is no longer audible. The repeated reflection that results in this persistence of sound is known as reverberation.

How can it be reduced?

To reduce the undesirable effects because of reverberation, roof and walls of the auditorium are usually covered with sound absorbent materials such as compressed fiberboard, rough plaster or draperies. The seat materials are also selected having sound absorption properties.

DEFINITION -

when the reflector is at a distance less than 17 m , the original sound gets mixed up with the reflected sound . Due to this reflection at the reflecting surface , the sound gets prolonged . this effect is called reverberation.

===============================

PROCESS OF REDUCING -

it can be reduced by increasing the distance between the source of sound and the reflector .
