Rigveda is a collection of 1028 hymns of gods and also about 10600 verses. They are divided into ten books. These are called Mandalas.
Rigveda contains procedures to do prayer, puja, karma and various religious rituals.
Veda is the first one of the 4 Hindu sacred texts or vedas. It was written in difficult Sanskrit.
SAMA VEDA
Sama Veda is the 3rd veda. It is the Veda of music and chants. It contains about 1875 verses of which about 1549 are unique. About 1474 are taken from Rigveda. There are hymns of Indra and Agni. Two Upanishads, Chandogya and Kena are embedded in Sama Vela. Chandogya Upanishad contains Hindu philosophy or Vedanta.
These vedas are dated 1200- 1000 BC.
