What is ring formation? Biomolecules
Answers
A ring forming reaction or ring-closing reaction in organic chemistry is a general term for a variety of reactions that introduce one or more rings into a molecule. A heterocycle forming reaction is such a reaction that introduces a new heterocycle.
Ring Formation- When carbons, aldehyde or ketone group react in carbonyl group and forming sugar in a chain is known as Ring formation.
Some Extra Information-
=> Most of the sugar form cyclic ring which are more stable thqn open chain form.
=> To enable ring formation the aldehyde can react with alcohol.
=> Furanose form when the hydroxl group on carbon no.4(C4) react with carbonyl group (C = O).
=> While the pyrunose form when the hydroxl group on carbon no.5(C5) react with carbonyl group.
=> In ring structure of the glucose there are 5 chiral carbon (C1 C2 C3 C4 C5) and only one of achyral carbon (C6).
