HCL is an important acid in the stomach. It helps in killing bacteria and other harmful organisms. It also acts as a food preservative. Apart from that, HCL helps to convert inactive pepsinogen into pepsin for digesting proteins in our stomach. HCL also acts as another coating on the stomach wall - apart from mucus - to prevent pepsin to digest the entire stomach..

Answer :-

⇔ Hydrochloric acid present in our stomach dissolves bits of food and creates an acidic medium.

⇔ In this acidic medium enzyme pepsigen is converted to pespsin, which is a protein digesting enzyme.

⇔ It also kills many bacteria and other microorganisms that may entered with the food.
