Generally vegetation is considered to decrease the ground water table because they need water to grow and produce food. So, they extract water.

However, if vegetation is selected in optimization technique such that they exist in a symbiotic relationship with water. They can help in recharge of ground water.

For example, intermediate trees can help in the recharge of ground water.

Since, vegetation cover helps to prevent water from runoff which result in the standing water which is ultimately absorbed by soil.

Moreover, vegetation cover provides soil surface which is permeable and helps water to percolate
