Read-only memory is a type of non-volatile memory used in computers and other electronic devices. Data stored in ROM can only be modified slowly, with difficulty, or not at all, so it is mainly used to store firmware or application software in plug-in cartridges.

ROM memory is a form of memory set in stone to coin a old phrase I.e. ROM stands do Read Only Memory which means some body has permanently put a set of instructions or data on to a chip which cannot be altered and will not be wiped when the equipment is shut down and power removed from the equipment. Unlike RAM RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY which will wipe all data when power is removed.
