"RuBisCo refers to the enzyme Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase.

It is responsible for fixation of carbon from carbon dioxide in plants. It combines the carbon from carbon dioxide with ribulose phosphate which is a five-carbon molecule.

Then, it splits this six-carbon molecule into two three carbon molecules, that is, 3-phosphoglyceric acid.

RuBisCo, though a crucial enzyme, is said to be highly inefficient, as it fixes around three carbon molecules per second and thus is very slow.

This slow speed is made up by abundancy in the plant cells.
