Rusting is an oxidation reaction. The iron reacts with water and oxygen to form hydrated iron(III) oxide, which we see as rust.

Word equation:
iron + water + oxygen → hydrated iron(III) oxide

Chemical equation:
4Fe+3O2+6H2O→4Fe(OH)3

Rusting means the red or orange covering that forms on the surface of iron when exposed to air and moisture consisting of ferric hydroxide and ferric oxide formed by oxidation
