A scalar quantity is one dimensional measurement of quantity like temperature or mass .A simple example is velocity .It has magnitude called speed as well as direction.

Scalar quantity is such a quantity to specify which we only need to specify its magnitude . It's counter is a vector quantity which needs magnitude as well as direction to be specified . Examples of scalar quantities are --- mass , energy , current.
