The light from the sun has to travel a long distance of the earth's atmosphere before reaching us. As light travels through atmosphere, it gets scattered in different directions in the air. The blue light due to its short wavelength is scattered more. Thus the light reaching our eyes from all directions is scattered blue light. Then the blue scattered light makes the sky appear blue.
