In the exercise, the scientific forestry involves maintenance and supervision of forests. To perform scientific forestry all the varieties of trees are chopped down and supplanted by the selective varieties of tree. In this manner, trees are planted carefully in straight lines/rows. This system of planting the tree into a systematic row came to be known as a plantation. The British government of India executed this system of scientific forestry on the suggestion of Dietrich Brandis. He was the one who gave the idea of implementing scientific forestry; urged the government to teach the people of India about the conservation practices. As a result, the colonial government in India banned shifting cultivation, grazing of animals etc in the forests by declaring the forests as the reserved or protected forests.
