Secondary memory is where the programs and data are kept for long term basis.It is a permanent memory.Common secondary storage devices are hard disks and optical disks.
the two types of secondary memory are:

1)magnetic drum

2) magnetic tape

Anonymous: is it ok??
parichay15: ok
parichay15: for exam
Anonymous: are you asking me??
Anonymous: if it is of 1 or 2 marks , then it is ok.

Hi Parichay15!!
Here's one more answer-->>

==>> So Primary memory of a computer is largely temporary in nature. So it is important to have some other form of memory on which data and programs can be stored even when a computer is turned off. Secondary memory or external memory is where programs and data are stored on a long-term basis. It is defferent from primary memory in the fact that it is not directly accessible by the CPU. It is also called auxilary memory. The secondary memory is non-volatile, i.e., it does not depend on power supply.

Two examples of secondary or external storage devices are ::

▪ FLOPPY DISKS = It is one of the cheapest and most convenient way to store data. A Floppy Disk is a data storage device composed of a magnetic disc covered by a square plastic case. It is an easy way of transferring information from one computer to anothet. For using Floppy Disks, a floppy drive is needed. The floppy disk is placed inside the floppy drive for reading or storing data.

▪ HARD DISK = A Hard Disk is a part of a unit called Hard Disk Drive or Hard Drive. The Hard Drive is another common device which stores data. Hard Drives come in different storage capacities for example 80 GB, 160 GB, etc. The Hard Disk is made up of a collection of discs known as platters on which the data is recorded. These platters are coated with magnetic material. Each platter consists of a number of invisible concentric circles called tracks. Data is recorded on these tracks in the form of tiny magnetic spots. The presence of a magnetic spot represents the bit '1' and its absence represents the bit '0'.
