Secularism is the principle that religion should be separate from the Government, and Religion should not dictate terms to the State. It can also be considered as "The Separation of Church from The State". I believe that Secularism is just the same - That religion, or belief should not hinder political discussions, and should not influence themAs for Secularism in the Indian Constitution, there are 2 mentions, one is in the Preamble, where it is stated thus:-
WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly
resolved to constitute India into a 1[SOVEREIGN
SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC] and
to secure to all its citizens..
It's pretty self explanatory. The nation that was constitute is not a nation having any religious affiliation, or promoting any religion. The next mention of secularism is in Part III, Fundamental Rights, in Article 25, clause(2)sub clause (a) to be exact:
25. (1) Subject to public order, morality and health
and to the other provisions of this Part, all persons are
equally entitled to freedom of conscience and the right
freely to profess, practise and propagate religion.
(2) Nothing in this article shall affect the operation
of any existing law or prevent the State from making
any law—
(a) regulating or restricting any economic, financial,
political or other secular activity which may be
associated with religious practice;
The meaning of secular here is "associated with no religion".
So there is no "definition of secularism" as you may think. Secularism
professed by the constitution is simple; A state which has no religion, promotes nor religion, abhors no religion, nor is against religion..
hope it help ☺..

Secularism in India implies approach treatment of all the religion by the state , unlike the western idea of secularism which imagines detachment of religion and the state .

- The state regards all natives as equal paying little respect to their religion .
