The three basic parts of the seeds are the seed coat, embryo and the endosperm.
Apart from these three primary parts there are parts with distinctive functions and appearances; projecting from the main body they are called appendages.
Examples of appendages can be fleshy funicle in nutmeg and yew or hairs in trichomes.
