  • A sere is defined as an intermediate stage which is progressing towards the climax community.  
  • A sere is defined as a stage that is found in a community or an ecosystem which is progressing towards climax.
  • A sere can be of different types depending on the progression like hydrosere as in water, lithosere as in land, xerosere as in very dry areas etc.
  • There may be presence of more than one sere in a particular ecosystem as well as there are different sere in the stages of progression till the climax community is reached.
