Sericin is a gelatinous protein that cements the two fibroin filaments in a silk fiber. Thoroughly investigated scleroprotein has been fibroin, the insoluble material of silk. The raw silk comprising the cocoon of the silkworm consists of two proteins. One, sericin, is soluble in hot water; the other, fibroin, is not. The amino acid composition of the latter differs from that of all other proteins.

Sericin : it is a protein created by Bombyx mori (silk worms) in the production of silk. Silk consists of 70-80%fibroin and 20-30%Sericin, fibroin being the structural Centre of silk, and Sericin being the gum coating the fibres and allowing them to stick to each other.
