what is shifting cultivation and why did British decided to ban it

a land is cleared and cultivation is practice . when it's lost fertility we use to shift to other forest covered area is called shifting cultivation. it was banned because they thought that such land would become unfit for growing railway timber . when forest were burnt there was danger of flames spreading and burning valuable timber. it made difficult for them to collect taxes

shifting cultivation means the cultivator used to cut certain parts of the forest in rotation, burn the trees and sow seeds in the ashes, after the first monsoon rains. Britisher banned because only for the colonial government.
