Japan and Nepal respectively sea locked and land locked countries, and both with bountiful natural beauty. This bountiful natural beauty, on the other hand, helps produce and cherish in the hearts of the people the bounteous and generous attitudes towards other people.

Japan and Nepal - countries under influences of the monsoon, and both are situated in the far east and west of the meteorological Asian monsoon-belt which expands from the Himalayan mountains to the Pacific ocean. Both also nature rich as the staple food.

Japan and Nepal- lands of histories of more than two thousands years of independence, and both nations hold king and Emperor as a symbol of unity of the country.

Japan and Nepal - lands without minerals resources, and both depending upon human resources instead, engaging in subtle trading, developing techniques in many fields, and nurturing arts and culture. These characteristics are crystallized in a multicultural and admitted as world heritage.

Japan and Nepal - nations inclined to resort to "beyond alternative" way of thinking or co-existence, and both peoples adapted the thought of Buddhism to Shinto to Hinduism or vice versa, which means people's minds are rather free thought of "only one alternative" or dichotomous way of thinking.

Now let us see the reason for the similarities of history and characters of both nations.

History

The origin of Nepal thus commenced aeons ago with a tinge of mythology to precede what people call "recorded - real history". Perhaps real history goes back to the time when lord Buddha was born in Lumbini whether 566 or 463 years B.C. Since then historical old temples and monuments of high architectural technique have been created.

Japan's old document "kojiki" (edited, it is believed, in 712 A.D) and "Nihonshoki" (edited in 720 A.D) also refer to the mythology of the birth of the country and the origin of the Emperor's ancestry. It was in 1882, of the Meiji era, that the country's foundation date was legally set as "Jimmu Tennoh" (Emperor) the first ancestral Emperor starting in 660 B.C. However both books also refer to the long tale of mythology of Emperors before "Jummu Tennoh".

It would be very interesting to make a comparative study of recorded real history of more than two thousand years up to present day, but since there is no time and space, just a few comparisons are mentioned.

"Licchavi Dynasty" could be compared with "Yamto" (593 A.D.), "Asuka", "Hakuho", and "Nara" (793 A.D) era of Japan where we could witness that the world's most ancient wooden temples were built in this period. The "Horyuuji" temple and "Changunarayan" Temple, for instance.Deva and Heian era observed how Buddhism penetrated into both countries and then adapted to Shinto and Hinduism. "Malla" era existed in the days of Japan's "Kamakura", "Muromachi", "Azuchi-Momoyama" and "Edo" era, so called Samurai period when the capital was placed "Kamakura", Kyoto, and Tokyo (edo). During this period both countries experienced vicissitude of many ruling authorities in different cities, i..e, Bhaktapur, Kathmandu and Patan in Nepal's case where locally each characteristically unique cultures were produced.

Many teachers rejected prevalent religious beliefs and practices because such beliefs advocated social differences, where the lower castes were oppressed by the upper castes. They believed in the power of personal devotion and felt attracted by the idea of a Supreme God, which believed that the only path to salvation was through bhakti or devotion.
