Slaked lime is calcium hydroxide which is formed in an exothermic reaction, by adding water to the calcium oxide. It is different from quick lime, which formed by heating limestone. Slaked lime can be mixed with sand to form lime mortar, an excellent material in comparison to Portland cement. Calcium hydroxide can mix with carbon dioxide in the air, gives up its water and reverts back to limestones.
