soap :- Sodium salt of long chain carboxylic acid having cleansing property are called soaps . Soaps are represented by the general Formula RCOONA. The hydrocarbon part R is larged and non ionic but last two parts are ionic .

Detergent :- it had cleansing property like soap it from leather with soft water as well as hard water also .It is because the calcium and magnesium salt which is present in hard water soluble in detergent . Salt of detergent soluble in water .

difference between soap and detergent :-

detergent and better cleansing agent than soap because they do not form precipitate with hard water .

soap don't work in hard water whereas detergent can be used in hard water because detergent are properly soluble in hard water too.

detergent have stronger cleansing action than soap it dissolves more radily in water than soap .

cleansing action of soap :-

Soap on mixing with water from a concentrated solution and causes foaming. The long non polar end of soap gravities towards and surrounded the dirt and absorb the dust in it . A spherical aggregate of soap molecule formed in soap solution in water is called micelle thus, the soap molecules dissolve in dusty region and our clothes get clean. .........
