Social Insect

Social insects, refers specifically to insects exhibiting eusocial behaviour (which has nothing to do with the EU), whereby a large group or colony of one species of insect lives together. The trait which defines an insect species as eusocial is the presence of castes, i.e, one large queen tailored towards breeding, and non-breeding workers.

Examples of social insects are some bees and wasps, nearly all ants, termites, and even the odd (very odd) beetle and aphid species!
