Soil erosion is the removal of the top layer of soil by running water, brings on human activities is known as soil erosion.

Human activities responsible for soil erosion are:
1.Deforestation:
Cutting down of trees in forest and cleaning land for agriculture, Roads, industries and human habitation is one of the chief causes of soil erosion.

2.Over exploitation of groundwater resources: Depletion of groundwater resources due to Over exploitation has led to many areas being converted into deserts and areas been prone to soil erosion. The worst affected areas are Delhi, Punjab and Haryana.

3.Rapid growth of population and industrialisation:
It has caused the accumulation of huge wastes on land. Many of these waste are non -degradable and when these are deposited underground these wastes cause damage to soil and land surface.
