The upper layer of earth in which plants grow, a black or dark brown material typically consisting of a mixture of organic remains, clay, and rock particles is known as soil.
Soil is used to grow plants and crops due to which one of the basic necessities of life is accomplished that is food for man and animals. Therefore it is referred to as a living system cause animals depend on it for plants such as cows..horse etc and humans depend on it for crops to eat.
Hope this helped.Thank you
