A sonar is a device used to locate underwater submarines, small mountains, sunken ships, ice bergs, and it is used to determine the depth of the sea too. The ultrasonic waves are send at the bottom of the sea to get the signal and the signal reflects back and there the computer makes a graph.

SONAR stands for (Sound Navigation And Ranging). It works on the reflection of sound.

Hi friend,
Sonar refers to sound navigation and ranging . It is a device that is installed in ships and submarine to check the distance ,speed and direction of underwater objects . In Sonar a detector and a transmitter is installed at the bottom of a ship or submarine .The transmitter transmits ultrasonic waves . These ultrasonic waves travel through water and gets reflected back when it touches any obstacle from the surface . These reflected waves are detected and converted into electrical signals by yeh detector. And then by this we come to know about many underwater sunken ships, organisms, ice bergs etc.
