According to Cattle, the personality of a person is the prediction of how he/she acts in a given situation. This can be given as follows.
R = f(P,S) here, R = reaction, f = function, P = Personality and S = Situation.
The traits of how a person reacts to the given situation is present in a person itself. Thus, to predict a personality, it is necessary to know about the person's traits and the situation, and to see which of these traits is relevant to the situation he/she is in. This according to him is known as the Specification Equation.
The formula
Pj = sjaA...+ sjtT ...+ sjeE....+ sjmM....+ sjrR....+ sjsS
supports this.

Specification equation has the very basic scopes of psychology which includes the aims of psychology which are
To predict a behaviour of an individual at any given moment in prior.
To determine the actions of an individual and making it predetermine.
To explain behaviour
Psychology is in basic need to explain the reason as to why people behave the way they are.
To control a behaviour.
It is not only to identify and predict but to control a behaviour.
