A stable electron configuration refers to an atom in which the outermost (valence) shell is complete. An unstable electron configuration refers to an atom in which the outermost (valence) shell is incomplete.

Or

Electronic configuration is the filling arrangement of the electrons among the shells of atom at increasing energy level. One shell can hold the number of electrons according to 2n2 format. where n=number shell.

If outer most shell of an atom contains 8 number of valance electrons, then its electronic configuration called stable electronic configuration. If outer most shell of an atom contains less than or more than 8 valance shell, then its electronic configuration called unstable electronic configuration.

Here for k, n=1, So k shell can hold maximum 2(1)power2= 2 electrons
