The frictional force, observed due to the interlocking of the irregularities in two flat surfaces, in contact with one another is known as static friction. This force increases with roughness of the surfaces involved.

Friction exist between every surface. The force of friction present between 2 objects at rest position is called static friction. It prevents motion in objects until the applied force exceeds the static friction's force
