what is statistics? Explain
Answers
Statistics is the study of the collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation, and organization of data. In other words, it is a mathematical discipline to collect, summarize data.
Statistics (shortened to stats) is information of things that happened in an event that can be put into figures and percentages, for instance, if there was a plane journey and the fuel tank had 1000 gallons left in it when it landed but started with 100,000 gallons, then that could be written out on a chart as,
gallons of fuel:
before journey: 100,000
after journey: 10,000
used: 90,000
or if there was a plane crash and 1 person died in it, 50 people were injured and the remaining 200 were fine, then you could maybe write it out on a pie chart for instance, with 1/251 (the total of people on the plane) of the chart showing the amount of people that died, 50/251 of the chart for the number of peolpe that were injured, and the remainder of the chart (200/251) representing the number of people that were ok.
There are many other examples and ways of showing statistics. Some statistics are used to predict the outcome of something else, for instance if there was a soccer match, then you could predict who would win, how many goals were scored, ect, just based off how the team had already been performing or the outcomes of previous games between the 2 sides and much more.
Hope this helps.
