  • Stomata are small pores present in the leaf.

They are surrounded by gaurd cells which help in closening and opening of stomata.

  • Their functions performed by them are as follows-:

1)They allow exchange of gases from the surrounding medium.

  • Usually, carbon dioxide is taken up and oxygen is released.

2)From stomata,transpiration takes place that is loss of excess water from the aerial parts of the plant.
