What is stomata? give its function

Stomata are small openings on the surface of the leaves of plants surrounded by specialized cells known as guard cells. These guard cells control the opening and closing of stomata. There are two main functions of stomata which are as follows:

Stomata helps in gaseous exchange i.e. intake of carbon dioxide and release of oxygen

Stomata facilitates the process of transpiration in plants.
