conversion of solid substance directly into gaseous form is known as sublimation.

the phase changes from solid to gaseous phase without forming liquid phase first.

1. naphthalene balls [solid] sublime to make the solid form of naphthalene evaporate into gas.

2. When solid iodine crystals are heated (in a beaker with hot sand) they change from a solid directly to a gas without passing through a liquid phase and form a purple gas.

3. dry ice aka solid CO_{2} sublimes at room temperature.
