Two projects — phase one of the Delhi-Meerut expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) — constructed to decongest Delhi, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.
“Both these expressways have been constructed in a record time of less than 1,000 days. These would be among the first few world class access controlled expressways in the country,” said road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari. “After the inauguration of phase one of Delhi-Meerut expressway, the Prime Minister will hold a road show which is scheduled to start from Akshardham temple on the expressway.” “From there, the PM will fly to Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh where he will inaugurate the eastern peripheral expressway and address a public gathering,” he said.
The 135-km-long EPE, built at a cost of Rs 11,000 crore, envisages signal-free connectivity between Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Greater Noida and Palwal and will ultimately decongest the national capital. Phase I of Delhi-Meerut expressway is almost 9-km long and has 14 lanes, and runs from Nizammudin bridge to the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border.
