It can be in a brick or pellet form. It has a very frosty white form and is slightly more dense than water ice. Unlike water ice, dry ice sublimates directly to gas so it doesn't leave any residue. However, any frost damage from contact to the ice or any moisture drawn from the air will remain of course.

Frozen carbon dioxide is likely slightly colder than -78°C. Care must be exercised in handling the ice. Dry winter gloves are sufficient to protect your skin. Greater care must be exercised in preventing the sublimating CO2 gas build up, in say a small room, a car etc. Carbon dioxide poisoning can be a risk but is easily prevented. A small volume of dry ice can result in a large volume of CO2 gas
