Answer:

A symbiotic relationship is a relationship in which where both organisms mutually benefit each other or are dependent on each other for their existence.

Explanation:

Examples of symbiosis is as follows:

  1. Algae and fungi -
  • There is a symbiotic relationship between algae and fungi which results in the formation of lichen.
  • The nutrients are provided to fungi by algae and fungi provides protection to algae from any type of destruction.

  2. Rhizobium and legumes

  • The eukaryotic organisms cannot fix nitrogen but the diazotrophic bacteria can fix nitrogen.
  • Bacteria like Rhizobium have the function of reducing  N2 and thereby “fix” atmospheric nitrogen.
  • Many legumes have took advantage of this asset of special bacterial by making partnership with nitrogen-fixing bacteria, Rhizobium.

Answer:

Symbiosis is described as the relationship between two distinct organisms in which one receives benefits from the other.

Organisms in such partnerships may be reliant on one another for survival. There are three sorts of behavior that can be used to characterize this relationship:

  • Mutualism, in which both the organisms are benefitted from one another. Acacia trees, for example, are home and food for ants. The hosts are acacia plants and mutualists are ants. Ants, serve as a guard, destroying insects and defending the tree from grazing animals. And acacia tree, on the other hand, provides shelter and food to the ants.
  • Parasitism, in which one organism benefits at the expense of the other. A parasite is an organism that is benefitted, while the host is the one that is harmed. Tapeworms, for example, reside inside the intestines of animals such as cows, pigs, and other livestock. They feed on the partially digested meal of the host, thus,  depriving it of nutrition.
  • Commensalism, in which one organism is benefitted while the other is neither harmed nor benefitted. For example, The disc on the heads of remora fish allows them to connect to larger creatures such as sharks, manta rays, and whales. The remora detaches itself from the larger animal feeds, in order to eat the excess food.
