1) Symplast pathway refers to the path followed by substances to enter into vascular bundle of a plant through the cells.
2) Plasdometal connections provides linking between the cells and thus helps in Symplast pathway.
3) Casparian strips are impervious to water molecules so finally any water molecules following apoplast pathway has to enter only Symplast pathway.
4) The movement is relatively slower than the apoplast pathway.

\large{\underline{\rm{\green{Symplastic\:pathway:-}}}}

→ It is the system of interconnected protoplasts.

→ Neighbouring cells are connected through cytoplasmic strands that extend through plasmodesmata.

→ During symplastic movement, the water travels through the cells their cytoplasm; intercellular movement isbthrough the plasmodesmata.

→ Water has to enter the cells through the cell membrane and hence the movement is relatively slower.

→ Movement is again down a potential gradient.

→ Symplastic movement may be aided by cytoplasmic streaming.

E.g. cytoplasmic streaming in cells of the Hydrilla leaf.

→ The movement of chloroplast due to streaming is easily visible.
